Pospisil's Gasthof Krone, Oberbruch

Eating out is one of my life's great pleasures.

Slipping into something nice, wearing some sparkles. having my hair and face done, feeling pretty and turning one ordinary day into something special.

An evening spent with good company , filled with delicious booze,  nosh  and a healthy dose of laughter. If that 's not good enough to perk somebody up, I don't know what else will.

FF , my constant date and fellow food -enthusiast , shares my passion for dining out. He already mastered the art of  finding odd  celebrations . Being discharged  from the hospital,  passing an exam, surviving a stressful week at work,  acquiring a  travelling visa , finishing a home renovation project . You name it and we will celebrate it.

This month, I finally received my German citizenship. Another a perfect excuse to splurge on food.   So off went to   Pospisil.

 A  Michelin recommended restaurant .

We were greeted by clean,  crisp table linens, spotless floor, glistering glasses and cutlery, shiny furnitures and friendly service.

I scrolled my eyes over the short but promising menu written on the blackboard and I knew, I'm in for a treat.

After a toast to  another life's milestone,  the ''celebration'' became official and
our meal began.

It started of with an  amuse-bouce from the kitchen. Delicious fish cake with tartar sauce. It might look  and sound simple but  the flavors are more complicated than Taylor Swift and Kim Kardasian's feud!

FF orderned pan seared tuna on a bed of avocado tartar, which he wiped clean in no time.

Tonight is indeed my night,  two of my favourite foods ; foie gras and quail  were being offered an appetiser combo. A dish that both pleases the eyes and tickles the palate.

I rarely order pork when eating out and only tasted thinly sliced Jamón ibérico before. Pospisil's Iberian pork on the menu made me curious so I decided to give  their take on this premium breed of pork,  a try. It  which was served pink. I made me pause. I love my beef steaks , any cuts in that matter, cooked medium , even bloody.  But medium rare pork?! A small hesitant slice is all it took to throw away any of my reservations away.  It was butter- tender, tasted so...clean and subtle and even better than some steaks I've eaten in other places.

There's also a generous shavings of truffle  on the side. It definitely  spruce everything up .

FF's  rib eye steak was also perfectly cooked and just as  tender.

A generous serving of Spanish red and he was one happy camper.

Our tummies might be bursting in our pants but we want to know if their desserts are just as good as their savouries. So for research's sake, we pick two out of 5 desserts offered.

FF enjoyed a scoop of ice cream served with two  Zwetschge filled dumpling, rolling in butter and cinnamon sugar . A classic and delicious regional dessert.

Anything with chocolate is ok with me. Pospisil's white and dark chocolate terrine was bursting with flavours. The chocolates duo, the tangy mango ice cream and sweet-soury berries compliment each other better than any Korean love team.  It certainly gave my meal a happy ending

Menu changes monthly.

The spread was different  when I went there with work colleagues. It remained just as enticing.

Few of my them  ordered an appetiser  consist of 4 different and beautiful looking terrines.

I on the other hand, went for another artery clogging, but sinfully delicious foie gras. Perfectly pan seared and served on a bouquet of salad.

We practically order almost everything on the menu.

I  went for  Osso Bucco. Served with pasta. So, so good!

One at the table had a generous and beautifully cooked US flank steak.

While another, went for the cheek.

Two thoroughly enjoyed  pan fried fish served on frothy risotto .

While most of the colleagues finished their meal with double expresso.

The rest of the group decided to give our sweet tooth a threat.

What a better way to end a fantastic meal than freshly baked and still warm fluffy pudding, drizzled with silky vanilla sauce?!

A  generous portion of white and dark chocolate terrine with mango sorbet perhaps?

Everyone was raving about the food and the fantastic service.

Yup, Pospisil's , you're consistently good and never failed to impress. You just earned yourself some
loyal patrons!

Monte Christo , Baden Baden

This year's July was definitely not my month. I was on the surgeon's table once again , not for some much needed maintenance which will undoubtedly make me look better than ever, but for some life -saving repairs.
Thankfully,  surgery went off without a hitch.  However, the next two weeks were my least favourite days this year. I caught an infection, was in pain,  sleepless and what do you know, lost my appetite! I was so miserable that I did not even rejoice at my weight loss.

As per doctor's advice, I took my time recuperating. Nothing  strenuous in the next weeks, he says. I have a body to heal and a mind to calm, per se . So I was stuck at home, reminiscing good times and good places.  Often, I dreamed of our previous vacations, of warm rays of sunshine, tan, of friendly people and of delicious foods.

3 weeks post surgery, My wounds are finally started healing, my appetite's returning and my moods, well, testy. Being homebound did not fare me well.  It  made me restless . I miss being surrounded by people and miss being in the middle of all bustle  and hustle.  FF knew,  how happy disposition and fresh air could attribute to a patient's well being , so he decided to take me out to dinner.

He brought me to  Monte Christo  .
Revered for its good food and  efficient service, this Spanish restaurant is smack in the middle of Baden Baden.

The place  is compact, cozy and was buzzing with people just few minutes after it opened. I managed to whipped my camera and took few pictures of the colourful tiled walls, mismatch furniture and cactus adorned  restaurant before people started pouring. Soon after that,  empty seats were filled.  It was jam packed at 6 in the evening, so reservation is a must, esp. on weekends.

After weeks of being  on mostly soft diet and light meals, FF decided to throw me a little feast. Tapas is a perfect way of indulging in variety of foods and be ok with it. It's like a buffet brought to your table.

After a toast to recovery and good health, the food started coming.

Few olives and slices of bread are placed on each table, courtesy of the house.

Croquetas de jamón Ibérico

Iberico croquette, served with aioli. Crispy golden outside and creamy with the faint taste of smoked Spanish ham on the inside.

Morcilla negra con cebolla, balsámico y manzana
FF ordered black sausage sautéed in red wine sauce. Not really my favourite but he enjoyed it immensely .

Gambas al ajillo
Juicy,  succulent shrimp in lemony garlic sauce. The grease was so tasty, we ''mopped'' it all up with our bread.
Queso cabra horneado con miel
My favourite dish of the night. Baked goat cheese with honey, served with salad. The slightly salty but creamy cheese and the sweet honey is just a match made in heaven.

Espaldilla de cordero estofada
Braised lamb shoulder, hearty and very filling. I could eat this with rice.

Relleno de mozarella y jamón Ibérico
Mini cordon bleu stuffed with mozzarella cheese and Spanish ham. Tasted as dry as it looks.

Sardinas
A generous heaping of sardine.
Mozzarella de búfala con guindillas asadas y pesto de rúcola
Mozzarella cheese in pesto vinaigrette.  Wonderful this summer.

Crema Catalana

Monte Christo make really good Creme Catalana. It was creamy, vanilley, not overly sweet nor eggy. I loved this dessert!

Tarta de Santiago

With tummies full and mood lighter than 2% Greet Yogurt, we went home but promised ourselves  to come back.

Taumi Asian-Fusion, Bühl

This bright painted wall greets every guest the moment one step into the restaurant . It looks like a pair of dancers and somehow reminds me of a  page of  a Japanese manga.

The rest of the place on the other hand, is primarily dominated   in anthracite hue  , open spaced,  airy and almost  monotonic. Only  the wooden furnishing gives the place the contrast it needs.

No gold and red paint, no dragon carvings, no laughing Buddha , no aquarium full of fish or waving ceramic cats here. It's not  the typical run- the- mill '' Asian'' restaurants that seem to have spouted all over the country. It's trendy and undeniably modern, somehow out of place among the throngs of classic and traditional Baden restaurants that dominate the region.

Taumi   mirrors  the new dining places in  many major Asian cities.

It  also features an Open Kitchen and it's both fascinating and entertaining to watch how your food is cooked and prepared. I've seen such concept while dining  in Caprice  and   L'ATELIER de Joel Robuchon both in Hong Kong, many years ago.

It's a delight to watch such adaptation in our humble little town, albeit the less flair and in a much humble setting.

Right beside the kitchen is the bar.

I've tried many concoctions from this bar and each is as good as the other.

Plump prawns, glossy grilled sea eels, and succulent looking scallops laying on thick cubes of ice greeted me as I came near the kitchen counter.

Not wanting to be outdone, thick slab of tuna  in deep  burgundy was  laid on a display right beside a stack of fresh salmon fillets. I am hopelessly  seduced by the array of creatures of the sea..

Menu is extensive .  From spring rolls , satays, Vietnamese phos , grilled fish, curries to steaks. There's enough variety of foods for everybody.

And of course there's the Sushi.  The classics are just as abundant as contemporary . Personally, when it comes to sushi, the more creative and complex flavoured it is, the more i like it and Taumi give the Japanese sushis enough modern twist.

Aburi Sashimi. These flambeed slices of  tuna and salmon  for example,  had a light smokey kick, yet the fish fillets stayed buttery and sweet.

On our first visit, FF and I kind of overindulged and ordered enough sushi to feed a family.

My favourite was the Hotategai Tempura . A deep fried and crunchy roll with succulent scallop, generous dose of avocado  and drizzled with cream cheese-mayo ( ? )and  delicious sweetish soya sauce.

Taumi also offers reasonable priced lunch sets on weekdays. Different appetizers and two main dishes to choose from are available  Monday to Fridays . The menu changes every few weeks.

For just 8,50 euro, I got a small bowl of Miso soup with salmon flakes. It was yummy.

And a rather generous portion of crunchy and maki roll with a small salad on the side. It came home sated .

FF and I came back few weeks after.

He had surf and turf. Meat was rather tough in my opinion.  The shrimps on the other hand was juicy and sweet.

The sweet potatoes are so addictive.
I ordered Crispy Rocket.  A salmon crunchy roll and 4 Nagiri sushis.

Dessert menu is limited but well executed. I fall in love with mochi green tea ice cream which is usually served with 2 coconut cream filled sesame balls. Nom! Nom!

Sushi to go. I took a box of this to FF after having lunch there with some girlfriends. Still delicious in the evening .

Crispy tiger.  Inside out roll with ebi tempura filling and covered in  flambeed salmon.

A highly recommended place!
